Barracuda

Barracuda Home

Barracuda is the only engineering software package developed with industry to solve industrial-scale fluid-particle flow problems. It is very accurate since it treats particles correctly as discrete solids, not as a fluid, and with true size distributions. It runs extremely fast too – accuracy and speed are both critical issues for engineering success. Already proven in the chemical, petrochemical, and power generator industries, Barracuda offers these unique technical capabilities:

- Computational Particle-Fluid Dynamics = CPFD
- A break-through numerical ‘solver’ for dense-phase solid flows
- Particles are represented discretely as true solid entities
- Any particle size distribution
- Ability to simulate over 5,000,000 “computational particles”
- User can specify any arbitrary number of distinct particle species, each having unique physical properties, e.g., size and density variations
- Subgrid physics with a Lagrangian formulation gives infinite spatial resolution and tight ‘fluid coupling’ for high-fidelity simulations
- Fluid (carrier) phase may be either a liquid or a gas
- Gas is fully compressible with a true Equation of State
- Gas and particle energy equations (with wall heat transfer) enables simulating severe thermal shocks, and is truly conservative in all energy terms
- Particle loadings can range from ‘dilute-to-dense’ including fully close-packed, i.e., static enduring contact
- Particle stress tensor gives highly accurate particle-to-particle physics including both static and dynamic coefficients of friction
- Extremely fast running – many complex 3D industrial problems can be simulated for minutes of real-time within days, not requiring the weeks or even months as with old “CFD” fluid technology
- Engineering projects can be performed with guaranteed results
